Police Matters
Dear All,
A quick update on recent events locally ;
3rd April Burglary non- dwelling Standon area. Items removed.
3rd April Suspicious male seen at recreation ground area ( reported to me
8th April ). The male was not recognised as local and appeared to be taking
an interest in those using the rec. Do let us know if you see anything
untoward either there or anywhere else in the village.
5th April Suspicious van reported Main Road. I later confirmed this as
being legitimate- the van belonged to a business selling teak garden
furniture at a promotion event at the village hall.
11th April Assault at private premises. 1 person arrested.
Neighbourhood Watch
As you know, Hursley Neighbourhood Watch was re-launched last year. As part
of that process, a letter from me, together with a NHW window sticker, was
delivered to all households in the village by your village NHW Coordinator,
Mike Eggleton. The letter made reference to the merits of neighbourhood
watch and how it can contribute to the reduction of crime and assist in the
promotion of community spirit. It also contained an appeal by me for
residents to demonstrate their support for the watch by simply displaying
the sticker in a window or door of their premises.
It was clear from last year's efforts that there was a swathe of goodwill on
the part of some to act as " street coordinators " for their respective
parts of the village. May I thank those in the village for their efforts in
this respect. During a recent foot patrol of the village, however, I was
struck to see how many households do not display the NHW sticker. This was a
little disappointing and I would again ask through this update for members
to support their watch by simply displaying the yellow NHW sticker. It costs
nothing and helps send the message to the would be criminal coming into the
village that residents are vigilant and looking out for each other.
Best wishes,
Nigel Harding
