Flashing Speed Sign Update - March 10

I attended the Hursley Parish Council meeting this Monday with the view to
obtaining an update regarding the Flashing Speed Sign that we have been
patiently waiting for Amey to install for good knows how long.

It seems that Amey had not ordered enough sockets and therefor have been
unable to install the signs. Having said that, Hursley has the necessary
poles in place, and now Amey have the appropriate sockets, we are able to go
ahead and put the sign up. It was noted at the meeting that we should have
the sign up by the end of the week! Keep em peeled!

It was also reported (and on the HVI news comments page) on the Police
Report that a small speed enforcement operation was held in the village last
week and three drivers have been "dealt with" regarding speeding in the
village. Mark and Gavin (local beat officers) will soon be speed gun
trained, so we hope they will be in a position to deal with speeders more
regularly. They do say "discretion is out of the window! If you speed you
are going to be dealt with!" Finally an initiative called "Community Speed Awareness Team" (CSAT) was
also mentioned and seemed to receive a positive response from councillors.
This scheme is in use in other areas of the country whereby, in
collaboration and training with the local police, members of the community
are trained in the use of a speed gun. Once trained and authorised the CSAT
can deploy in the village and carryout a high vis overt monitoring and
reporting function using the speed gun. Data is reported back to the police
for their action and held in archive for continued data on traffic
statistics in the village. This is seen as a very proactive approach that
villagers can take in helping to raise the speed awareness message to those
drivers that continue to speed in our village. It was agreed at the meeting
that the HPC would investigate with the local police if such a scheme could
be started here in Hursley. I will report back on this in due course.
