Early in June there was a guided tour of the village called Hursley's History Heirs.
This tour was given by Elizabeth Proudman, who used to live in the village many years ago, and was very well received by approximalty 30 persons.
Over the last few weeks a number have commented on how very interesting the tour was, for those that have lived in the village for many years and those not so long.
With this in mind I have asked Elizabeth if she would be interested in running another tour, this time on a weekend date, in the near future.
Elizibeth has indeed said that she could be available on either 24th / 25th July, and 28 / 29th August. The cost of the 2hour tour is £45 split between the number of those attending the tour, so if we get 20 then £2.25 is all it will cost for the really interesting tour of our village.
So if you are intested please complete this sort survey form : https://harkweb.wufoo.com/forms/hursley-village-guided-tour-return/
Did you know that Alan Ball the former England star used to live in the village…..

We are conscious that several warnings have gone out recently to specific areas in Hampshire but these traders can so easily travel throughout the county. We are therefore re-sending brief information to everyone. Full details can be found on our website detailed below.
• Roof Repairs (loose tiles, missing tiles) – some asking for small amounts of money for the repairs, then increasing the cost when further faults are found.
• Roof cleaning (including power washing which can cause damage) and repairs.
• Cleaning driveways, pavements, patios - often by powerwash systems. These often cause damage and charges are inflated.
• Security - Telephoned crime or security surveys. Asking quite personal questions regarding home security. The aim will be to sell you an alarm system. Often high pressure selling, visits to ascertain what is required and even ‘free’ systems and untrue statements that Trading Standards approve and direct response by the police.
• Tarmac – re-surfacing work to drives and paths.
• Tree surgery and gardening services.
Some of these traders are not providing consumers with the required notice of right to cancel (7 day cooling off period), others are inflating costs for work which is not necessary and demanding cash.
Please be on your guard with regard to cold callers either on your doorstep or by telephone. Please do not hesitate to contact our Quick Response Team on 01962 833 666.
Full details of these warnings can be found on our website: www3.hants.gov.uk/tradingstandards/tradingstandards-scams.htm

Some of you may be aware that I have carried out a number of random speed checks in the village over the last few months, and if you had attended the Parish AGM you may have heard that on one occasion only two vehicles were found to be exceeding the limit from over 150 passing vehicles!
The good news is that on the subsequent checks no vehicles have been recorded exceeding the limit of 30 mph. However rest assured the checks will continue on varying days and at varying times as I am more than aware one speeding vehicle is a potential danger to residents.
Questions have been asked as to why I wear a hi-viz jacket when doing the checks; the reason is to ensure I can safely stop any offending vehicles and also to pass the message out to road users that I am present and carrying out a speed enforcement operation. If Hursley is known for random speed checks it will hopefully have the desired effect of lowering traffic speed. Also the speed gun has a range of far beyond the sight lines I am using, and as the reading is instantaneous then what I am wearing has very little impact. I have a vehicles speed generally before I am seen by the driver.
Of course cars travelling in the opposite direction may "flash" on coming cars to warn of my presence but if this results in cars travelling safely through Hursley then the end result of slower traffic has been achieved.

Merdon Manor - Garden Open Day will take place on Sunday 27th Jun between 2-6 pm. Entry is £3.50 for adults and children are free.
I would like to send a quick e-mail to promote a FREE activity that is being put on by the Sport & Physical Activity Team and is taking place on the 25th July to celebrate the countdown to the London 2012 Olympic Games. The Big Green Summer Picnic will take place at North Walls Recreation Ground from 12:00pm to 5:00pm and will challenge people to come along as a family and take part in 20 minutes of walking, jogging and cycling activity whilst enjoying a picnic throughout the day. I’d be very grateful if you could promote this FREE event through your local parish magazines, notice boards and local networks so that we can countdown the celebrations to London 2012 together.
I have attached a scanned copy of the Big Green Summer Picnic flyer for your use and hope that you can help us in promoting what will be a fantastic day.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me,
Thanks
Chris

We have a fantastic group from the village that need your support.
Team 100 percent is made up of Keith Davis, Andy Lay, Stuart Pemble, Dave Tabb, Jamie Tabb, they are doing something very special this weekend to raise money for the British Heart Foundation.
They are taking part in the Randonnee which is 100 miles across the South downs way, starting at Winchester and hopefully ending up in Eastbourne, our total climb will be 10000 feet, this all in 1 day!
The little feller in the Pic is young Conrad James Cook, he was born with a hole in his heart, he has been on quite a journey since joining us on planet Earth, it's been tough for him and his parents, though now things are looking up, due to all the hard work and skills of the Southampton General Hospital.
Our focus on 26th June will be Conrad, he shall see us through the physical and mental challenge on the day, with your support too, we will get to the end and raise funds for a much worthy cause - The British Heart Foundation.
Team 100 percent are all fortunate to be blessed with strong hearts, some are not so fortunate, we recognize this and throughout efforts hope to raise as much as we can, to support the British Heart Foundation.
If you can help please visit the teams JustGiving page.
So please dig deep and donate now.
